PEARS - Provider Course


PEARS Provider (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization) Instructor-Led Training For Pediatric nurses, secondary Pre-Op and Post -Op nurses and all healthcare providers

Course Goal:
The PEARS course is designed to help the basic pediatric healthcare provider develop the knowledge and skills needed for emergency evaluation and treatment of seriously ill infants and children.

Course Description:
This course is designed to give students a chance to learn, practice, and demonstrate proficiency in many lifesaving skills during the first minutes of a response to care for a seriously ill or injured child.
Students will watch video clips of ill children. They will participate in instructor-led discussions and case simulations to practice.

Target Audience:
Healthcare providers who might encounter pediatric patients in their profession but who do not routinely provide care for children with high-acuity illness or injury.

PEARS providers may include:

  • Medical and surgical nurses
  • First responders
  • Healthcare providers who care for children outside of critical-care areas

$140 QMC employee

Tuition fees are waived for permanent part time, part time quarterly, or full time QMC employees required to maintain PEARS certification. You must have a manual. Manuals may be either purchased or borrowed ( if your unit has a library)

Location & Parking:
Class is held at The Queen’s Medical Center Education & Development Classrooms. Location and maps will be provided with your course materials. $5 parking validation stickers provided for non-QMC employees for the Miller Street Garage, POB 1 or POB 2 parking
